Discover Pride 2024: PRIDEfetti Yarn and LGBTQIA+ Icons

Pride holds different meanings for each of us. In a world increasingly divided by fear and uncertainty, its true essence can sometimes feel lost. Pride should be a time of celebration and unity. However, it has once again become a courageous act to stand up for what we believe in

For me, Pride has always been about discovering my authentic self. I remember the first time I painted my nails, feeling both exhilarated and terrified. With age, I've come to understand that authenticity is an evolving journey, deeply intertwined with my queerness. Like many queer people who grew up in an environment where experimenting with your self-expression was not safe or welcomed, you learn to seek comfort and validation in other areas. Perhaps it's working to get that next A+, become a fiercer athlete who could go pro, learn how to be “perfect” or maybe a combination of all. We all crave validation or recognition regardless of who we are and where we come from, and as queer people, we can often learn to value ourselves based on what we perceive others will recognize us for. 

This year, 2024, has been a turning point for me, marked by profound self-discovery. I've started to dismantle long-held beliefs and rules that no longer serve me, paving the way for a more authentic self. It’s about rediscovering and embracing my true self, even in moments of doubt and shame. It's about celebrating the courage to be authentically me.

When creating my Pride yarn collection this year, I felt called to lean into authenticity and create art that reflects my values and myself.

Education & Advocacy 

The Stonewall Inn Uprising began on June 28, 1969, when patrons of the Stonewall Inn in NYC, led by brave figures like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, resisted a police raid, sparking six days of intense protests. This defiant stand against constant harassment marked the birth of the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement. The legacy of these heroes and the uprising continues to inspire Pride celebrations and the ongoing fight for equality worldwide.

Elevating Icons 

Shantay, you stay… a phrase famously said by ​​RuPaul Charles, the queen of drag who revolutionized the art form by bringing it into the mainstream with the debut of "RuPaul's Drag Race" in 2009. The show, which has crowned numerous talented queens and inspired international versions, champions diversity, self-expression, and LGBTQIA+ visibility. RuPaul's legacy continues to inspire fans worldwide, promoting acceptance and authenticity through the fabulous world of drag.

Cultural Moments 

Please! These gays, they’re trying to murder me, is a memorable line from Tanya in season 2 of The White Lotus, played by Jennifer Coolidge. This scene quickly became a viral sensation on TikTok, where it was transformed into a club beat and embraced by many queer individuals who resonate with its humor and spirit. The line has become a part of the vibrant party culture often celebrated within the queer community. Truth be told, I adore Jennifer Coolidge, and I have yet to meet another gay person who doesn’t share this sentiment.

This unique colorway captures the essence of the Pride flag and rainbow colors, symbolizing inclusivity and celebration. PRIDEfetti is my way of honoring the spirit of Pride in a way that feels authentic and joyful.
